$2.2 million upgrade to Pacific Coliseum & Hastings Park approved: Sullivan
Mayor Sam Sullivan today proclaimed today as “Vancouver Giants Day†in the City of Vancouver. Mayor Sullivan read the official proclamation in the City Council Chambers where Councillors were joined by the Vancouver Giants team with the Memorial Cup.
The Vancouver Giants defeated the Medicine Hat Tigers 3-1 in the Memorial Cup championship game Sunday at the Pacific Coliseum.
“In addition to being the best junior hockey team in the world, the Vancouver Giants are also wonderful ambassadors for our community,†said Mayor Sullivan. “Families from across the Lower Mainland have enjoyed watching the Giants since 2001 and we look forward to many more years of great junior hockey at the Pacific Coliseum. We are proud to honor the entire organization today.â€
In addition to recognizing the Vancouver Giants victory, Mayor Sullivan and City Council approved more than $2.2 million for improvements to the Pacific Coliseum’s roof and upgrades to the Forum at Hastings Park.
“Many Vancouver residents have fond memories of concerts and hockey games at the Coliseum,†added Mayor Sullivan. “The funding we have approved today supports our goal to make Vancouver a premier destination for arts and culture by ensuring these Hastings Park facilities will be around for a long time.â€
